my teaching goals

PROPER Technique

I am a fastidious teacher and ensure each student has a solid foundation so they can progress quickly and succeed with advanced pieces.

Kindness

The most important elements in teaching are love and kindness. All students need to feel supported and connected in order to learn effectively.

growth mindset

Violin is one of the most difficult instruments to learn. I focus with students on honing a growth mindset: looking for progress over perfection; noticing improvement; and being patient with themselves as they learn a new skill. Perfectionism thwarts progress and causes students to feel discouraged. Perfect playing comes after giving ourselves grace as we grow.

“Melinda Call is an excellent teacher… It’s been really cool to see her interact with my child and see my child willingly listen and work when she asks.”

“Some people are wonderful musicians and others are wonderful teachers but Melinda is both!”
